‘Tis The Season
As Christmas is fast approaching, I thought it was the perfect
opportunity to share with you all my top 3 dairy-free bevies xxx
So, whether your cosied up by the fire or rockin’ around the
Christmas tree, I’ve spent the last few weeks tasting plenty of festive drinks
to make my dairy-free friends Christmas' a little more jolly.
1. Califia Farms Pumpkin Spice – With coffee chains like Starbucks releasing festive specials over the holiday period, it would be rude not to mention this season’s most sought-after flavour. The craze for this cozy fall beverage has taken the internet by a storm, quickly becoming a part of every teenage girl’s personality. And with high street coffee chains competing to deliver the best version, Calfia Farms have gone and created an almost identical tasting, if not better Pumpkin Spice Latte Cold Brew Coffee.
The sweet pumpkin-y goodness is made with the company’s base almond milk (making it dairy-free obvs!) and real pumpkin purée, combined with a blend of cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg to give it that spicy yet seasonal kick. When I first popped open the bottle, it smelt heavenly… In fact, it smelt so good that I downed half the bottle before even arriving home to pour it in to a glass.
And if I haven't already persuaded you to buy this beauty, the price is just an added bonus. At £2.75 (on clubcard ofc), you get a 750ml bottle that lasts up to 5 days, making it a much better option than your overpriced Starbies.
2.
A Dirty
Hot Chocolate – Nothing beats snuggling on the sofa with a steaming hot cup of
cocoa on a cold and frosty winter morning. And, while Christmas is one of the
few occasions when it is socially acceptable to start the early morning
drinking, a hot chocolate cocktail is the ideal way to start the day.
For traditionalists, bourbon, rum, Irish cream, and brandy are excellent additions to spike your hot chocolate, and although most of these alcoholic drinks are dairy-free, as a girl who used to shot Baileys from the bottle and pour it over everything from mince pies to ice cream, it is disappointing to see that even the big brands are yet to deliver a dairy-free alternative.
However, I recently discovered the
Dirty Cow, a US-based brand that offers a variety of flavours of their dairy-free creamy liquor, including Caramel Bombshell, Loaded Chocolate, and Sooo
Vanilla. Its rich and robust taste puts a slightly more grown-up twist on the
classic sip, and the varying flavours are only the tip of this drink's creative
iceberg.
3.
Mint Mocha Martini – Tired of drinking mulled
wine? Add a little sparkle to this season with festive libations designed to
ignite the Christmas spirit. Drinks expert, Amara Andrews
(https://amaraandrew.com/christmas-cocktails/), has created the most delectable
and festive (dairy and gluten free!) cocktail recipes, guaranteed to make you
feel merry and bright. And, while I haven't tried them all, this Christmassy
combination of mint and chocolate is so far hard to beat.
Made with smooth peppermint
syrup, velvety milk chocolate, and a generous measure of vodka, this super
indulgent cocktail is sure to keep the winter chills at bay. And if, like me,
you enjoy an espresso martini, try substituting Kahlua liquor for the vodka to
get that strong coffee kick, but beware, its dangerously addictive.
